I have always loved drawing and an hour passes very quickly when I'm lost in a piece of artwork. In the early days I would draw any picture that caught my eye, copying photos of horses, people, and sometimes random objects, just to practice shading and depth.
It was always a hobby for my own pleasure which was neglected due to family and career until recently when life changed a little and I had time to do a few commission drawings for friends and family. Since then I haven't looked back and I love the challenge of capturing a true likeness and the character of the subject I am drawing and I really love the reactions of my customers to their pictures. Now I have a much better work, life balance that enables me to do what I love...including spending the time I need with my beautiful family!
I love using pastel pencils which can create so many different textures and the style of the drawing can change simply by changing the paper. I also enjoy working with graphite pencils to create a striking black and white image. I also enjoy a different style using watercolour and ink, usually favouring vibrant bright colours. However I'm always exploring new tools and methods and I'm always open to discussion for something different!
My love of horses has always inspired my drawing and is responsible for its beginnings. As a horse mad teenager I would spend hours drawing horses, and art was always my favourite lesson at school. Then after many years of never having the time to pick up a pencil I was inspired and motivated after following the work of a very talented young man who produced amazing commissions. He inadvertently pushed me to not only continue drawing but to develop and improve myself. Now I know I'll never stop and can finally call myself an artist!
